First Cut
How will we ever cut off these blond curls. Curls that when wet go all the way down the middle of her back.

It took her two years to even get hair how could I ever sweep any away when it drops to the floor.

Yes it could use some ‘evening-up’ and shaping…

…but I cannot do it yet.

She’ll be three next month. THREE!
And she’ll be greeting that birthday with untamed wild blond curls because that’s just the girl she is.

Stubborn. Just like her mother.

there’s no waaaaay you can cut her beautiful hair! EVER!!
my oldest had fantastic curly hair but we finally cut it when he was 6 months old b/c ppl kept mistaking him for a girl–despite his train overalls. his curls never grew back.

Can she be more beautiful? I think not.
For the record, I love crazy wild hair on toddlers. Monkey had the most ridiculous mop of Beatles-esque hair and I loved it. Until his grandmother took to it with scissors, sigh.

Right there with you Tracy! Anna turns 4 in August. No haircut yet. Fearful that if her curls are cut that they’ll be gone forever. Plus, is there anything cuter than a toddler girl with a pony tail? Have a stellar weekend!

I also had a baby girl with no hair for so long, so I know how you feel! She looks beautiful.
There is a Jewish tradition still practiced by the more observant that you don’t cut a boy’s hair until he’s three – and then the haircut is symbolically done at his third birthday. So, I’m just trying to say there’s a long tradition of not cutting baby hair!

Is there a traditional time for a cut for girls? I am not being funny; I am wholly fascinated always about the differences (and perceived differences) between races when related to hair. As I feel comfortable speaking for all of the black people of the world, I tell you that many of us believe that boys are “supposed to” have their first cut at 1. Puhleeze. Zaid’s sporting a bush on his way to a high top fade (did I lose you yet?). This is much to my father’s chagrin; he wants to get that boy in a barber’s chair like there’s fire on his butt. As for girls, our hair tends to be less, um, flowy? than those of the nonblack persuasion so it’s kind of a rite of passage to get it pressed or permed, but not necessarily cut into a style until damn near middle school (other black people reading, do not dissent; you’ll make me look like I don’t know my folks!).
My daughter is itching to get the salon regularly. While yes, occasionally I’ll trim their hair and flat iron it, I am not ready for either of them to have an actual style yet. AND I’M STILL SAYING NO TO BANGS!

I’m living vicariously through Astrid’s hair. I had to cut K’s because it was just so scraggly in the back.
And, OH SHE IS SO CUTE!!!

So sweet. No need for a haircut anytime soon, plenty of those in her future…
It is tough to cut off those beautiful curls. My daughter has them too. I tell myself that they grow back quick. I cut my daughters so that she could wash her own hair easier.
Beautiful, just like her mother.
Cady had SO much hair when she was born. I think her first haircut was at nine months, but I still felt this way every time we had to trim it.

Heck no! Not yet!
While FireGirl was younger, I put off her 1st haircut (really just a trim / evening up) MUCH longer than everyone around me suggested. And she didn’t get her first REAL haircut for another year after that, when she told me she wanted it cut short. By then it was to her waist.
Those curls definitely need some more time to grow out! Let ‘em grow!

Astrid is a doll!
My youngest has curls on the bottom of her hair and I will never want to give her a cut because how could we ever part with those sweet baby curls? (I’m terrified they won’t grow back.) So, she might be eighteen before I give her the first cut.

I wouldn’t cut that hair for all the world! I hard a hard enough time cutting Buggy’s hair just before he was two and he had girly girl curly curls. I didn’t care! I loved them. Don’t cut them until you are ready, or just don’t cut them at all she is stunning!

She wears those curls SO well!!! I’m totally in support of no scissors coming near them.

my daughter will turn five in august and i just now in the past few weeks cut the back of her hair. all she had ever had was her bangs trimmed and then i quit doing that and was letting them grow too. the ends of her hair always had her baby curls still there and i couldnt bring myself to cut them. they are now in a zip lock baggie. i so relate.

Her hair is adorable don’t cut it! She’s getting SO big!
I also totally know what you mean, I’m waiting for Bella to get some more hair and I can’t even imagine cutting it.

She’s adorable, and I do love those curls! I’ve trimmed our daughter’s hair a few times, and it’s not too bad, but I can never manage to cut much off.

My daughter has those curls. We have cut bangs, but I can’t do anything else.
Tracy, I did not take the twins for their first haircut until they were almost FOUR. They have gorgeous long brownn, tangle inducing curls, but I just couldn’t do it before then. And it got kinda embarrassing to take them to school with such unruly hair.
