Quaker Real Medleys Oatmeal For Moms On the Go and a $75 Giveaway

I’ll admit right now that I’ve let breakfast get a bit out of hand in our home. It’s totally my fault and I’ve been starting to wonder if I can change things for the better for our family.

See for lunch(on weekends) – everyone is on their own. If you want it – make it. I make my lunch and I make Astrid’s lunch if I cannot convince her sisters to do it.   And for dinner – I make one meal. I am not a short-order cook. One meal. If you don’t like it – well it might just be a long hungry night.  It turns out by enforcing this system my kids are more willing to try new things and it’s so nice to have a meal that we all sit together as a family to enjoy.  Although some might still turn their noses up at creamed spinach…JED!

Anyway – breakfast is my challenge and usually goes like this – all three girls line-up on the couch watching the TV mindlessly with little newborn baby kitten eyes. I let them do this as it lets them wake-up it gives me time to try and throw together their breakfasts and get all of us somewhat organized as we are so busy and rushed that we need to somehow get out of the door in the morning.(Continue reading and enter to win!)

But  then I turn into a short-order cook. And I totally offer my services – waffles for Eloise, fruit for Astrid, oatmeal for Esther, then a waffle for Astrid, then Esther wants a banana and oh wait Eloise now wants cereal and milk, and then Astrid wants some milk and seriously I JUST WANT MORE COFFEE and some track shoes because I’ve now traveled back and forth to my little darlings 32 times just to serve the princesses breakfast.  Did I mention coffee?

I needed a solution for the problem that I created.

So I was thrilled when I was asked to try Quaker’s new Real Medleys Oatmeal! It’s truly a great solution for a busy family rushing out the door.   We tried all of the flavors and loved them!  I loved that they combined healthy multi-grains with fruit and nuts so I know my kids were eating a good breakfast, but I also loved how quick and convenient Quaker Real Medleys are.  The flavors are really amazing and Esther has already sent me back to the store for more Summer Berry and Cherry Pistachio.

In addition to adding Quaker Real Medleys to our morning routine we are trying to do a better job of being more prepared in the mornings  – packing lunches ahead of time, everyone being responsible for their own breakfasts, and sitting down together for a few moments before our crazy days start.

WIN IT!

Oh the morning routine. We’re a cereal and milk family, with a couple princesses who like to sit in front of the computer to watch shows and “wake up”. And mommy needs time to make her coffee. :)

Our morning routine also involves my little one watching television while I get breakfast together. Nine times out of ten though, he insists half way through preparing breakfast that he wanted something else but but only 2, he’s not so great at telling what that other something is so I pour myself a glass of wine (coffee takes too long to make) and wait for him to finish with his tantrum and eat the original breakfast choice.

Our morning routine would go smoother if I just poured the glass of wine for myself a little sooner.

I LOVE instant oatmeal!!! That is exactly what I eat every morning before work. I would love to try some new flavors. Peach has always been my favorite.

I get up early to read blogs, work out, and have a few moments of quiet before everyone else is up. My husband (the night owl) gets up at the last possible moment after I’ve yelled “You’ve got to get out of bed NOW” three times. My 9 year old takes care of herself pretty much, except for the hair or fashion meltdowns that occur at least three times a week. The 3 year old wakes up and immediately says “I want watch TB.” So I plop her on the sofa in front of PBS. Luckily she’s pretty easy to please foodwise. If everything runs smoothly, morning are fine; it’s when we have meltdowns and missing shoes that everything goes to hell.

Mornings are insane in our house. We get 2 adults and 2 kids up and out of the house in 75 minutes. It’s non-stop. Morning would be so much easier if I wasn’t constantly dealing with kids who are unhappy with their breakfast choice. I’m gonna have to try the Quaker Real Medleys and see if that makes mornings a bit easier.

Usually breakfast around here involves me trying to pin the toddler down to change her soaking diaper while simultaneously trying to convince her that popsicles are NOT an acceptable start-to-the-day meal. We settle somewhere around naked kid running through the house eating sliced fruit.

M-Thurs, I pack up both kids and something ‘easy’ they can eat in the car – ie: pop tarts, granola bars, etc and away we go (don’t judge!) Friday, Saturday and Sunday – we get really fancy around here – like cereal. Or, pancakes!

My oldest daughter loves oatmeal. Every day. Every. Day. I don’t see how she does it, but she never tires of it. I can’t remember a school morning when she hasn’t had oatmeal (literally) and since she can make it herself, it’s weekend breakfast too (and always Quaker).

We’re up at 6:15, out the door by 7:15. She wakes, sits in the bathroom for an unnecessary amount of time, especially to come out and STILL not be dressed, ugh. These would be great because they mean we could leave even earlier and she could eat in the car. (Yes, providing a healthy breakfast, albeit in the car, is just as important as my getting to work earlier so that I can leave earlier!).

Mike eats oatmeal every single morning, he would love me to win this! I can get Charlie to eat breakfast if I make it for him, so rather than him going to school hungry I will usually make him oatmeal or peanut butter and toast. I don’t eat until 10′ish, when I have the house to myself, usually cereal. On the weekends, Charlie likes to cook sometimes and will make us his famous eggs. Fun giveaway!

Fortunately, my husband is a morning person, so he handles most of the mornings. I have no clue what my kids eat for breakfast because he makes it every day! Woo hoo! My morning routine is that I stay in bed as long as humanly possible until my husband tells me the kids have to catch the bus in 10 minutes. Then, I go downstairs, make their lunches, and tell them good-bye!

I also let the kid watch tv in the morning while I make breakfast, lunches, and drink coffee. I usually regret when she’s so cranky at the end of the show, but I need the 22 minutes. I usually make eggs or oatmeal for breakfast. I’ve been getting lazier and making Eggos lately, but this oatmeal seems like a great alternative.

In the morning I take the dog out, serve breakfast, make sure the kids get ready for school, and let my youngest sleep in. I guess it would be easier for me if my youngest actually napped in the afternoon and got up a little earlier so I didn’t have to tip-toe around in the morning for fear of waking her.

I wake each weekday at 2:30am to make it to work by 4am (I live 40 minutes away), so my breakfast is rather funky. I get what I can (if time permits) for our work cafeteria, but this is not always a viable option. My four teenage girls are on their own for breakfast, either cold cereal or toast. It would make my life easier to have a small stack of oatmeal on the go cups in my office. Then I know I can take a few minutes consuming something decent each morning.

I am well acquainted with The Quaker, I eat oatmeal 350 days out of the year. Usually it’s plain with 2 Splenda’s and a handful of frozen berries. With these convenient packages, I might even sneak one of these suckers in after the kids annihilate Mother’s Day breakfast in bed.

I am not a morning person. Through the week I pay for my boys to eat at school and I usually skip breakfast. On the weekends, it’s everyone for themselves or sometimes I get real energetic and make a big breakfast. I would love to try the Real Medleys. I think it would get our mornings off to a better start.

My morning routine is simple: wake up, cuddle with my frog princess, get her milk and then get her oatmeal! I always have coffee but should really start having oatmeal with her.

I would love to try the Real Medleys though.
