I made adorable felt heart and button hair clips for Valentine’s Day. I love these. They are fun to wear and fun to give. And easy to make.
As has been proven in the past. I am not crafty. Glue guns scare me. Glitter is my mortal enemy. I only own kitchen scissors. I have zero patience.
But even I can make these hair clips. ( I can also make cute children but I really cannot teach you how to do that.)
I made a professional video of how to make these fabulous hair clips. Holy hell I know it’s like four minutes long…but it’s worth the watch. Just take me into the bathroom today while you are doing your business. I will entertain you much better than People Magazine does.
Or just show your kids..oh wait don’t show them as I talk about roach clips and Virginia Slims and felonies. I also may swear a lot. Minor things.
But I’m wearing ruffles and flower headbands and everything.
But in case you have a short attention span(there’s therapy for that by the way) …here is the tutorial in bad grammar form…
1. You will need felt, buttons, ribbon, hair clips, hot glue and scissors and your children in front of the TV so you can get this done. ..unless they are good with scissors and hot glue of course.
2. Cut a few hearts out of varying sizes to layer upon each other. Curse a lot because your hearts pretty much suck.
3. Grab your felt hearts, a button if you so desire, a clip and cut a piece of ribbon that will cover the clip.(Don’t ask me how long to cut the ribbon. I don’t own a measuring tape.)
4. Hot glue the ribbon onto the clip. Burn yourself at least twice.
5. Hot glue the hearts and buttons together in size order. ( or sew – see note below)
6. Glue the hearts to the ribbon covered clip. Note: if you want to you can sew this all together instead of using glue. It would be cute to use a fun contrasting thread. I would never take the time to do this..but that is just me. I know you are anal and need to sew these, right? We are no longer friends.
7. And you are done. Wear and admire. Okay, don’t wear. Please give them to your children to wear. You are too old.
8. How cute are these. Also you can see that some of my hearts face different directions…so make sure you determine which side of the head you will wear these on so you do not end up with upside down hearts. That’s just all sorts of wrong. Then it kind of looks like felted boob clips.
How fun to clip the felted hair clips on a Valentine’s Day card to give at school!(Valentine Card template)

And I want to thank you all again for your amazing love and comments on my humorous spin on the Mommy Wars debate. Who knew there were so many red wine drinking bikini waxing virgins out there. I am so proud of all of us.

So, grown ups can wear these? Because otherwise I have no use for super cute V-day hair clips. The Dudes would die if I made them make these with me. I should vlog them making these with me. That would be hilarious!
They would be super cute on your puppy!
Very cute! I didn’t watch the video (I don’t have patience either, nor the time) but I read the instructions and love the craft! Thanks for sharing.
Stopped by from Mama Kat’s
YOU ARE CRAZY! A. Those are really cute and I’m going to make them. B. That video was the funniest thing I’ve ever seen. I think it was wise for you to switch to that glue gun because that other glue you were sniffing caused you some “issues.”
Glue sniffing is huge issue. At least for me.
SO cute! SO.
{We can do this together! I’ll drive my van over wearing yoga pants and bring the white wine. 8:00 mmkay?}
xo
Just bring the homemade glittered playdoh for the kids to play with. Oh and your dog.
Done. xo
So no playing with glue guns before wine hour?
I’m just gonna go out and buy me some heart felt hair clips.
Want me to send a couple over? Along with fresh skin for yer fingers?
Hee! Loved this vlog. So much.
Glue should always come before wine. Also yes, please send hairclips.
Those are adorable and just about my speed. I only do super easy crafts! I am sooo going to have to make some for my girls!
Oh Tracy, you are awesome and those are SUPER cute.
I am going to go to the store and buy a glue gun to make some for my hair. Unless you think tape will work?
Yeah, you need glue..lol
Very cute!
Now all I have to do is figure out how to get my older girls to wear them.
That would be a really cute idea for when my daughter gets older for her girlie-friends! Thanks for sharing!
You’re daughter is so ding-dang cute! Also, the clips are a great gift idea.
Those are pretty darn cute even if you did sustain some pretty serious injuries during the crafting process.
I knew it was cold out but I didn’t know hell had frozen over-never thought I would see you do a crafting vlog! HILARIOUS.
I am going to buy you a lifetime supply of E6000 glue so you can toss your glue gun and keep your skin.
What the hell is E6000. I hope it comes with instructions.
Omg I must stop reading/watching you at work, because I laugh out loud and pee a little every time!! You are seriously the best.
Is there a name for a glue gun phobia? Because I have that. I have been burned more times than I like to admit! These do look super cute and not too hard so if you hear me screaming all the way in MN…you know I’ve gotten to the glue part!
I promise to send a box of band-aids.
Such a cute Valentine’s Day craft! And the vlog? Hilarious! Now, if only I was as uncrafty as you, then maybe I’d actually try to make them.
You want I should watch you in the bathroom? Weird. But I don’t hate the idea….
As for the clips, prior to discovering this precious baby I am currently incubating was a girl one, I would have cursed you and your three (CUTE!) girls. I can’t lie, I really would have. I would have mocked your felt-hearted craft.
Now?
Awwwwww. So sweeeeeet! You are so clever! You have totally inspired me to make them for my own little girl!
See how the world is a better place now?
Hilarious. Oh just wait for all the PINK and GLITTER and CRAFTS and HAIRBOWS. Life-changing.
Holy hell that was funny my dear. Almost as amuzing is the difference in comments between the video watchers and those that simply saw the hair bows. They are missing out.
Love that…and did I hear Galit was bringing white wine? I am there.
What’s with all of you white wine drinkers…
Love, love, love!
Now I need to think of something to clip on the boys’ valentines for school…
I LOLed for serious. Love it.
so if I commissioned you to make me a set, how much for the extra skin attached to the ribbon?
The Agronomist walked in whilst you were explaining the roach clips and was all “what the hell?” You are one gutsy crafty mama. Your curled hair was to die for. Can’t believe you went to all that fuss for all of us.
Loved it.
Dana
Thank you for noticing my pretty curled hair. I was afraid no one would recognize the fuss I went to just to be pretty and crafty for you all.
xo
I’m glad I had just visited the ladies room before I watched this or else I’d need a new work chair. That’s all I’m gonna say.
I glue gunned the hearts to my hair and now I’m screwed so I’m just drinking a lot of wine.
p.s. how do you get such gorgeous pics of your sweet girl?
I hate crafts. You know that. But I love you.
And I think Jack would look great in these.
(I just won’t tell him your address when I make him wear them on Valentine’s Day.)
XO
Now I gotta go dig out my glue gun. These are precious and you are hilarious!!
