I haven’t slept on a bathroom floor since college. The cool tile felt so good on my forehead.
The one benefit of not being in college anymore is that I have a toddlers potty chair in the bathroom so when things are coming out both ends I have a better solution now.
Don’t tell Astrid I did that.
Anyway, something hit me at yesterday at 4pm – maybe The Rapture, maybe that TLC What Not to Wear was highlighting a Minnesota woman and filmed it at the State Fair..because you know we all farmers or something, maybe an immaculate conception, maybe the lettuce I had for lunch…but most probably the flu. Esther and Astrid both had the pukes last week so it was evidently my turn.
Jed was working last night so as I was dying on the bathroom floor Eloise made dinner and served dinner. Esther cleaned up the table and the dishes. The girls stepped over me and took a shower and showered their baby sister too. They got her into jammies and settled onto the couch to watch Rudolph before bed. Eloise told me they could get Astrid to bed with no problem.
No one asked me for anything and they all spoke in whisper voices as to not disturb me.
I know my job as a mom is to work myself out of a job…but I had no idea it would happen so soon.
So my plan is when I’m feeling better to take up drinking tea and eating bon-bons all day while I watch daytime talk shows because my work here is done.
If you could send over some ginger ale though I’d be ever so grateful as for some reason these damn kids cannot drive. Seriously?

Wowza! Those are some awesome kids to help out like that. Hope you feel better soon.
You have the sweetest girls. Seriously, could they be more thoughtful? Whatever you are doing, you’re doing it right! Send tips!
Oh, Tracy! I’m so sorry you were sick.
But those girls of yours are pretty amazing.
Hope you’re up and eating bon bons soon!
xoxo
You have some incredible kids! How thoughtful they are.
Hoping that you start to feel better soon.
first, shuking? NOT fun, at all. I won’t tell your lil baby girl you the things that toddler seat has seen.
second? your kids are amazing and that’s the damn truth. your work is done, right?
I’ve never heard the term shuking. Gross. lol
It sounds like you had what my entire family had the Friday after Thanksgiving . . . I didn’t realize that stomach bugs could be passed through the internet.
I was just tall enough to reach the bathtub while sitting on the toilet.
LOL – yes it was like a bad episode of Bridesmaids. Hope you all are better!
First, I want to wish you a speedy recovery. Second, I need to figure out how to trade in my three boys for three girls. Had I been on that floor, those boys would have stood on top of me to brush their teeth.
Take care.
m.
Boys …they are all the same.
So flu = self sufficient husband and kids? It’s tempting….
Is it wrong that my husband and I have considered faking sickness just to see how the girls would respond? Have I taught them well? Would they be able to feed themselves a full dinner (not just popcorn and pie)? Would they be able to get the boy to bed? We’re very curious. Notice I said fake sickness. I do not want any bit of what you have. None. Also, feel better soon.
That sounds like miserable with a silver lining! Hope you’re feeling better soon.
You’re sick but you’re blogging because….?
We will get you in a 12-step program soon.
xoxoxo
Ack! Feel better soon!
And seriously, way to go with those girls of yours. But I know you know that already.
ew……both ends is the worst…
I once begged Eric to suffocate me when I was sick because surely he couldn’t love me anymore…
Hope you’re all better now babe…
Yes I’m hoping this means I’m so disgusting that we don’t need to have sex for another 3 years.
Oh poor you and poor me because you are not around as much as I need you. Kidding. A little. Get better. xo
The stomach flu terrifies me. I hate puking. Especially the kind that has it coming out both ends. Feel better soon, my friend.
And your girls are awesome. Seriously – awesome.
I’ll drop off some ginger ale and bonbons later.
Since you are coming by..some Cecil’s chicken soup would really hit the spot.
Shoot, already delivered the goods (check your front door). I can make a Cecil’s run tomorrow though!
You just totally shot right into first place as my favorite neighbor. xoxo
So sorry you are not feeling well! I hate being nauseous. I know I am being a bit melodramatic, but when I feel this way, I want to put a gun to my head.
Moms are not allowed to get sick; sad, but true.
Feel better soon.
Love Your Utah Friend,
Tina
Urgh sorry you’re sick, but oh my, your girls are truly amazing.
Feel better soon!
I hope you feel better soon!
How sweet that your family can fend for themselves when you are sick!
Get well soon. You have hit a fabulous age with your children taking care of the youngest. So sorry you are sick.
Those are some amazingly great kids you have.
Hope you are feeling better!!
Oh poor thing! Flu is worse than morning sickness. feel better soon.
Nice to hear that the girls were so helpful, but ya, they should totally be driving by now.
I had the Rapture many times in college.
Just saying.
Ugh that sounds beyond miserable. But your girls how awesome!! You have taught them so well. My kids didn’t help out as much when I had the flu- but they were only 2 and 4 at the time
Oh gosh! I hope you’re feeling better. And I’m so glad you have a “plan.” Do you need a partner in your new venture because I’m a willing participant?
Poor sick you- I hope that you feel better soon! And wowsa, your kids are ever amazing! Love!
Beside the creative writing (with dripping sarcasm sometimes) your blogs always have pictures of you or your kids dressed in stylist outfits for the occasion/event…especially on Wednesday (What I wore Wednesday or something to that effect)…your readers want to see what you were wearing while sprawled out on the bathroom floor (on a Wednesday no less)….I’m just saying
How said is it that I actually thought about documenting what I wore this Wednesday…
Picture this…
Old running pants with holes
stained white tee shirt
no bra
black fleece caked in puke
glasses on
puke dried in hair
no jewelry

Ick, hopefully you’re feeling better. Stomach viruses are by far the worst.
Hope you are better soon! Sounds like the virus Kristi had. Hasn’t been at our house yet… knock on wood.
Next time I’m sick I’m calling Eloise. And Esther. And I guess they can bring along cute, little Astrid too.
Hope you’re all better, my friend. xo
I’ve missed this post and am reading it while driving home from a two day trip away. You are making me laugh. And I’m starting to read your posts outloud to The Agronomist. He is smirking. That is huge.
Dana
First, I’m so sorry you were sick…the flu is the worst! But oh man, I am cracking up at of these comments! From the shuking, to Mark’s comment about his 3 boys, and the the what you wore Wednesday…too funny.
Hope you’re feeling better now.
Seriously, your girls are like the nicest, sweetest little helpers! I first got a glimpse of them in the Proud Mommy Moment post you wrote for Kirsten at the Kir Corner.
As a mother of a daughter, at times when she showed her nurturing side, it never failed to make me stand up a little bit straighter and puff out my chest a little too
Proud mama here;)
Dang it, though… why can’t they drive yet??!? LOL
Whoa. I’m sorry you felt to terrible. I hope you feel better soon. Your kids are incredible, they must have had an excellent mom to teach them to be that way. Stopping by from SITS. Have a blessed weekend.
