I remember shopping for luggage with my mom. Blue? Black? Hard-side or soft-side? A complete set. A sign you are moving out soon. Mom smiles. There seems to be a skip in her step. High School graduation must be soon.
I chose the brown tweed set. Seriously, I did.
Back in the 80’s, ahem, traditional graduation gifts were:
2. 10 pack of $5 McDonald’s gift certificates
3. A one-way bus pass
4. A desk lamp
5. Did I mention luggage?
My mom graduated in the 60’s. I am sure that the Top Graduation gifts from the 60’s were:
2. A crib and layette set
3. A toaster
4. A one-way bus ticket to Canada
Things haven’t changed much since the good old days, except kids no longer walk seven miles uphill to school and back, so of course the top high-school graduation gifts in the 10’s. (is it the 10’s?) are so incredibly similar..
2. iPad to go along with your iPhone and iTouch and iPod and Mac. That you already own. And if you don’t own the Mac..well..
3. A Mac
4. A trip to Europe
5. Cash. Copious amounts of cash. Which I am sure they will use for luggage.
Congratulations to all of the graduates this year. May you go to college, get good grades and stay sober enough to make your 8am classes. Also, remember to tell your parents thank you.
We are sharing senior pictures this week and linking up to Liz’s place.
I pretty much rocked the teased bangs. Not sure how I fit under doorways. That picture was taken the night before I left home. I look like I may hurt that sweet young boy. Also giving my mom dirty looks was a true gift. Dear Schools – also please stop naming your school mascots “The Trojans” – no girl should have the word “Trojans” across her boobs. Ever.
So what did you get for high school graduation. And if you didn’t graduate…well – WHY WHY OH WHY?
